Back to a Landy after 22 years in the wilderness

Livin near Reading.
I've just got myself a Defender 90 TD5 County 2002 in Oslo blue. I managed to convince the family that it would be a great idea to go on some family expeditions. The first one is next Christmas up the Arctic Highway in Norway to see if we can see the Northern Lights. I'm hoping on the way to meet up with a couple of the memebers of the Norwegian Land Rover club, ice traction tips with luck...

Mention an expedition and people either think you are mad or want to come too, so far it's about 50/50!

I used to trial a 1965 Series II LWB hard top. Favorite moment was winning an RTV by staying in the canes but taking down a 4 inch dia tree, creating a new route to compete with the Range Rovers!

I'm looking forward to my off roading day with Land Rover and getting back to some trialing, my 14 year old daughter wants to have a go at Tyro. let's see if she can handle that 'men only' clutch pedal!

The dealer's got a 10 point fix list, which surprise surprise includes water leaks, shock absorbers and a clutch release bearing. I don't care I love the Defender with a passion.

Other cars... a Volvo C70 2.5 SeLux (Berkshire potholes have bent 4 of its poncey mag alloy wheels so far), Merc E300TD estate, whole family love that motor as it's been with us now 10 years and 160k miles.

Seeing that you are in Reading a looking at getting back into RTV I thought that you might be interested in the SCOR trial coming at Aldermaston in a few weeks.

Hi Andy, Yes I'll come along. Does more than one club use Aldermaston as I have been looking around and I'm sure seen it as a Trials event elsewhere.

Aldermaston is just up the road and I'm keen to generate interest in the family and keep the dents at bay. Are there Trials events classified as 'non-damaging' that's what they used to be called. Although if you drive daft anything can happen. V8 Rangie drive shafts used to be quite amusing... ah that's what the diff lock's for....

Aldermaston is run by 4x4withoutaclub and I think they run play days as well as trials.

SCOR have two trials classes. Class 1 is our non-damaging class....unless you do something particularly daft. It's very friendly and nobody will force you to drive anything that you don't want to drive.

Look out for me in a battered (not because of trials ) blue 3dr Discovery.
