Was just going to ask if you used your waffle boards. Did you guys air down when you got in the sand first?
Used the old waffle boards ALOT! Mate told me a good trick i wish i had heard before hand, tie them to the car so you dont have to pick em up after!

Yup, aired down to 18psi which made a huge difference, so much better.

:lol:Called a tag line;) that way once you are moving you don't need to stop to pickem up, or walk a long ways to retrieve then

Would you keep with the tyres you got or go to a AT type with a less aggressive tread pattern

It's a tough one mate as I have nothing to compare too, having said that we did some pretty tough stuff and we got through it! Also I should say my copper STT's are not the most aggressive mud terrains, insa turbos would be crap :)

Thought those were STT's;) which are good for mud and sticky stuff. But will dig fast in sand, where the AT's from cooper would excel. So how much mud,wet stuff did you encounter on your trip?
 
looks like an epic adventure! me and a friend are hoping to do a trip there in 2015 with a bit of luck, like the look of the roof tent etc on the 90 (the 1 that goes out over the bonnet) hopefully make somthing like that to go on my disco

Hmm, any chance of provisionally joining in?? Maybe have a chat about it sometime on the lanes?

I could do with going somewhere dry ...
 
What was the reason for not going with the group like Mark and Mike did in the end chaps?

Their where a couple of personal complications initially which was the reason for a solo trip. It all depends what your looking to achieve from the trip. I think with a group of 17 vehicles and I'm guessing nearly 34 people you don't get so absorbed into the culture. For instance we met a Moroccan chap living in the desert miles away from anyone who invited us in for tea etc and to look round his mud hut, I very much doubt he would have been so accommodating if 30 odd people turned up at his door.

The flip side is if I was going to take my other half etc I would 100% book with a company for the organisation and security that's attached with such a company.

Horses for courses in my opinion and plenty of pros and cons to both depending on what your looking to get from the trip.

From the opposite side (i.e. having gone with a trip of 16 vehicles) I couldn't agree more with the above.

It was almost embarrassing sometimes when you turned up somewhere -felt like a coach tour. We were always quick to break away and do our own thing in the towns and explore, but, it was a bit annoying sometimes - like if you just felt like stopping taking in a view / photos you can't if in a massive convoy.

However, there was the safety of having the tour guide, both Mark and another guy had new swivel housings fail, Marks' was 5 hours from civilisation - we had a garage drive out and fix it, i imagine that's harder to do with out the contacts.

For the first trip i'm glad we went with a group. If i went back, i'd go on my own! (well with a few friends)
 
It looks brilliant guys, I have just done pretty much the same trip down to western sahara on my sportsbike with 2 of my mates. It was awesome I can definitely recommend a big road trip no matter what your in/on :)
