Discovery 300Tdi 1997 :)

Driving back today noticed that the old lass was vibrating badly, a bit like when you accelerate hard in too high a gear, only a lot worse when I accelerate.

It doesn't do it in the lower gears 1,2, and 3rd it does it in 4th from about 30mph and in top around 50 mph.

It's as if something is loose when the engine is working slightly like on a slight incline.

I checked the front bearings and one is a bit slack so it's getting replaced.

It's just had a track rod end and all the other steering parts seem ok.

Front propshaft has no play that I can feel.

Anyone had similar problems or have any ideas?

Thanks for reading :)

rubber doughnut between the rear prop & rear axle-flange?...
your symptoms described what happened to me when mine started to shred.

Tis an easy job to do...just make sure you put the bolts back in facing the right way (as indicated on the doughnut)

EDIT
When you buy a replacement, try to get a GKN one, not a Britpart...

Got shot of the doughnut last year and fitted a 200 Tdi rear prop

Thanks anyway :)

It doesn't vibrate when knocked into neutral.

No movement in rear prop either (not that I can feel)

How do you feel the vibration is it whole car through the steering or pedals??
Radius arm bushes would cause the front axle to rotate as you apply torque or brake and could cause vibration and or bad steering.

Changed the front bearings today and took it for a spin, still doing it.

Had another look underneath and a good feel about around the bushes, mounts etc.

Here's a clue ;)
