Hi I want to change the oil in the axles and gearboxes of my d reg 2.5td 90. What grade oil is the best. Also how do I identify the gear and transfer box cos she has play in the front prop out of the transfer and its noisey as hell when changing gear or speed.

80w-90 GL4 in both the diff and transfer but in the gearbox is the old type ATF 33G ford spec

If you have a 4 speed box then it's 15w40 engine oil in the transfer box

what brand is your favourite?

i'll try and get some product info for you

The engine seems to need a proper commercial diesel 15w-40 oil, normal off the shelf 10w-40 or 15w-40 oil can be used but you have to half the oil change interval to 1500 min - 3000 miles max, just thought you'd like to know

best regards

pete

Pussyeater seems bang on the money tho I run expensive LR MTF in my 5 speed box.As he says be choosy about oil quality and change intervals. As they are not intercooled they put a lot of heat into the oil.(19Js that is)I use Total Rubia TIR7400 but still change every 3000 mls.all the best

Thanks people. This wekend the truck gets a full engine service and all oils changed. If it could talk I would what it would say!!!!!!!!!!!!!
