Average miles to a full tank of fuel?

Hi Guys,

looking to improve my MPG!! I have done the egr valve. Removed the viscus fan. Service kit with cam belt N pully set.

It still has its Cat on it, so not sure what difference that will have?

What other items can i do and what is the average milage on a full tank of gas? I think i am getting around 300 miles this is with not many long drives usuallly around town and lamping at night.

It really is quite a tricky question because it depends on so many things. Having said that, I rather think the first thing you need to look at is your driving style. That can make a masive difference. There are many things within that style that need to be held in mind.
First, to acheive a certain speed in a vehicle takes fuel. Whenever you use the brakes, you are converting that fuel used into heat on the brake discs. That's a waste. Lookahead and think ahead. Don't, for example rush up to a junction and brake hard, ease your speed off earlier by taking your foot off the accelerator.
Now, I know that sounds condescending, but it really does make a significant difference.
When I was driving in Norfolk a while back I went from 350 miles per tankfull to 600 miles. OK, Norfolk is flat and the journeys I was making were rather longer than my normal average, but 350 to 600? A lot of that had to be driving style.
Getting back to your original question,
What's the terrain like where you normally drive?
What engine do you have?
How much "stuff" do you carry about with you?
These are just some oif the determining factors before you start messing with the engine.

As said there are so many factors its difficult to say.
90 with underset tank should be good for 280 miles ish more on a run.

Fuel up twice as often with half as much fuel. Why carry around 30 kilos of diesel if you don't need to?

Doubt thats going to make any measurable difference in an aerodynamic car like the defender!

sorry guys its a Green P Reg 90 Defender Manual 300tdi

iv got a 95 disco completely standard and got 450 from a full tank ..well 84 litres. iv now got rid of the egr and cat and comparing the difference.

Let us know as it will be interesting to know
Cant see egr removal if it wasnt faulty
Cat i can see as its a restriction in the system

well here goes

i filled her up when 1st bought her standard

with 83 litres got 451 miles from tank light just came on

filled her up again 82 litres got 467 light came on at 450 miles bang on.

so verdict is - egr and de cat seem to make no difference what so ever, however she does seem smoother and picks up better (may just be me imagining it but seems good to me)

Currently running on winter tyres so we will see how goes, but am doing some towing aswell so will be effected, next update will be after if altered the pump.

Just replaced my P reg manual disco with another. Both got/are getting around 430 from 70L.

Winter tyres have made a huuuuge difference loosing apporx 80 miles to a tank. still not turned boost up but will be doing soon enough
