Morning,
When dropping off my wife yesterday for Xmas shopping, I put the Disco in park to listen to her go on about the list of jobs that need to be done while she is shopping . Anyway went to drive off put it in Drive (Automatic 03 plate) as normal Didn't touch any buttons. And noticed the Red light on the gear selector for D was flashing plus the D on the Speedometer and had the Green M and S Mode was on as well (Not Flashing just on). Pressed the MODE button nothing went out turned the car off left it and then on again then it had cleared it self.
Any advice please on what I need to be replacing and saving some Xmas money back for?

Could be just a sticky XYZ switch. Mine did it a few months ago, I held the button on the gear lever and moved it back and forth 'vigorously' and it's been fine since.

Morning Sorry for the late reply. No didn't turn it off and forgot to mention it made an unusual clonk noise when it went into drive.

Sounds like your XYZ switch has gone. About £480 for the switch. Mine is in the garage having it replaced right now. Similar symptoms but mine wouldn't go into reverse.

It could be the xyz switch or bad wire connections to your battery.
Do the easiest and check all your wire/cable connections are tight going to and from battery especially to alternator, check for corrosion and check the cable wiring isn't frayed.
if all cables and connections look good, check the xyz switch... Crawl under your Disco and verify that the XYZ switch (located on the auto box's right side) is tightly secured to the autobox along with the electric cable connector to it.

Was this a one off occurrence, if so put it down to gremlins, if not have fault codes read, cleared and read again when the fault has re occurred so that you are not investigating a historic fault.
If there is fault code P0705 position switch monitoring, please be aware that this refers to the xyz switch and all its related circuits from the battery, through the xyz switch to the eat ecu, bcu ecu and emu ecu.
Just may be you, in resting your hand on gear selector, held the selector between positions to long as the eat ecu constantly monitors the wxyz feeds and only allows a fraction of a seconds break when changing selector position before going into limp mode, just a thought.

Thank you for all the advice I will check the wiring etc over the Xmas break better then sitting around with the in-laws . And you could be right my hand was getting tight on the gear selector with the thought of my wife over spending whilst shopping!!:D.
Keep posted
