autobox problem

whilst towing my caravan home the gearbox fault message came on and the engine cutout and wouln't start for about 30 mins,I noticed the gearbox fault message is not listed in the handbook but gearbox overheat is any ideas please

Petrol or diesel? Gearbox fault message often appears due to low battery voltage and also if the car is moving but the engine is not running. so your problem is likely to be to do with the engine cutting out rather than a gearbox fault.
It's normal to introduce yourself with more details of the car in the intro section, it's also worth doing a site search for answers.

There are any number of reasons why "Gear box fault" message comes on, most result in message, Mil lamp illumination and limp mode. Non result in engine shut down.

Its a 4.0 petrol it was driving fine gearbox fault light came on then engine cut out the coolant normal was normal?

Don't know, but there is no fault listed for the box that would cause the message to appear that shuts down the engine.

Check the alternator output and the fuse box for signs & smells of burning.
