Auto Gearstick Not Locating Properly P38

my auto gearstick is not locating properly, this gearbox was meant to have been rebuilt while sirus the moderator had it as he lost drive with it a while ago.

anyway i can put it in D and move it into position 3 without using the button, once it is in 3 i can move it about a lot, from D i can move it into N and D iss till lit up red ad the car still drives, also when i put it all the way forward P is not lit up and i have to push it harder to get P to light up.

any ideas, i have no problems with the gearbox, its not really an issue if i just select D and drive but its annoying when its not locating properly

any ideas guys

is it me or havent your explained the 'doesnt locate properly' properly? its meant to move from D to 3 without the button

well thats great news i now know its not a fault, is there a way of adjusting the gear selector so it goes into position corectly ?

IIRC there is an adjustment on the selector end of the cable.
