Anyone got any idea of the weight of the two units. I'm looking at buying a transmission jack so I need to know what size to buy.
I would prefer to take the two units off in one piece and split on the bench, but if the weight is too much I will split and take off separately.

Together they weight less than 1/2 ton. If your thinking of removing them in one piece be very careful were you balance the chain/strap as the transfer box is about 75% of the weight. Gearbox is an easy carry for 2 people, transfer box is a very hard graft for 2 to pick up.
When I remove them from a car I normally do it in one go. I remove the tunnel from the inside of the car and place a strong piece of wood across the hole and use a ratchet strap to support the whole thing whilst I remove the support from under the car. Once this has been done its a simple case of releasing the strap and removing the pair via engine crane.
I used to use a crane into the car for support but when lowering the gearbox they always ended on top of the legs!
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for that.
I will be careful to get the transfer box weight close to the centre of the jack, Maybe I'll get 2 jacks! No problem removing it from the jacks, I have a 1.5 tonne mini digger I use as a crane. Picks engines up a treat so should manage a gearbox + transfer box up onto the bench to work on it.

I plan to drag the engine, gearbox and transfer box out in one lump off my spares dog, again lifting the lot with the digger, I can then splt all the units in relative comfort.
