Hi guys looking for some help. I have recently purchased a 4.0 p38 which has been converted to LPG ( to get me around the LEZ emission thing )
It has has developed a gearbox problem.

Dash computer keeps asking to select nuetral and the gear lever lights flash.
I have taken to a garage who informed me i needed a new gearbox

1, another gearbox fitted along with torque convertor
drove fine for a day and then same problem
2. gearbox was removed and replacement oil pump fitted
drove fine for very short while and now same error is on dash

help any ideas or has anyone had a similar prob??

Welcome!

yeah sounds like transfer issue, does hi-low gears work?
duff ecu, dirt in shift motor plug, shift motor
try fuse 11 see if it goes into transfer neutral

Garage ripped you off, that message is to do with the transfer box not the gearbox.
As the others said, most likely transfer box ECU or connectors, motor or possibly the switches on the gear shift.

Many thanks for your input guys, told the garge to read the website.
found a very good parts place in Norwich and opted for trial and error changed Both ecu's, inhibitor gear selector switch then finally changed the high low transfer motor . hey presto one working gearbox.

You have replaced many parts not needed, could just have been dirt in socket to transfer motor or switches, sure something could have been duff but thats one expensive way to sort things.

If you changed the Gearbox ecu i seem to have read somewhere it needs adapted to BECM - transfer ecu shouldn't be a problem but hey if it all works satifying...

Now go and :fighting: the f... garage there changed gear box etc. and next time you know where to look/ask first

According to my info, it's only the 4.6 auto box ECU that needs calibration when changed:)
