I keep seeing ads for 10/15 year old RRs and Discos.
They seem incredibly cheap for a lot of car. They must be cheap for a reason....are they that bad.
I am thinking of taking one on as a project.......I have good workshop facilities and, for the right car, would even lift the body off.
What is the best to go for and what to avoid.

They are cheap because they are full of electronics and complicated parts that go wrong/wear out and need replacing. Many haven't been maintained properly so have a lot of issues needing money spending on them

What he said.
No idea about the Disco, but for L322 they are cheap to buy because they are expensive to maintain. Parts have not gone down in relation to age, and you need to be more auto-electrician than mechanic.
That said, if you are willing to put time, money, or both into them they are definitely worth it.

P.s I put the below in my signature around 5yrs ago. It becomes more true by the day. ;)

Each has their own types of situations they put you in. Later models require more electronic diagnostics than earlier ones, or for example Discos require more welding than RRs. Choose one that suits your skills be prepared to learn, inform yourself before you buy to lessen the chances of getting a lemon and consider your budget wisely is all you can do.

Good project.

Cars costung 50k and upwards cost quite a bit to run when new, them same running costs increase as the cars age, sometimes dramatically,
Basically as they move down the foodchain corners get cut.

Depends what its intended for, off road fun or serious every day road car o_O. These are expensive toys ,hobby's that you can drive ,if you know how to fix them" fill yer boots ;) if you cant get a second mortgage cause they get under your skin and for some are a world of pain  ,But wee all love them really:confused::D:D

Yes, I think the D3 or D4 comes at maybe 2.8 metric tons? Ford Focus probably half that.

Think ford ran it in some strange named 4x4?

Iirc D3 chassis also copied from another car maker?

Same 2.7 engine in Jag/Peugeo/Citroen, all makes suffer the same ailments ie snappy cranky/spinny shells.
