Hi guys
Roughly about a month or two ago Son and Farther in law went to look at a series 3 landy swb to buy and get back on the road if cheap enough to buy but didn't buy it as it had a mk5 transit diesel engine in it, anyway the Farther in law wants to have a stab at it if it can be cheaper, so just thought i would ask is the tranny engine any good in a series 3.

Any engine is better than no engine. Many original engines have been replaced over the years for a variety of reasons. I guess it depends on how original your FiL wants a landy to be. If originality isn't a big issue and the tranny engines works, then there is no issue. The engine can always be replaced again.

You may find its OK to live with, key is how well its done. If there's a neat adaptor plate, engine mounts line up and the wiring and pipes/hoses are OK it should be good to go. As other's say, you can always change it later but if the conversion has been done well there's no rush. I went to look at an S3 a while back that had a 2.5 BMC in, but it was so badly done with the engine at an odd angle to avoid sorting the filter and engine mounts that I gave it a miss.

Whats a mk 5 transit engine? Are you talking about the banana engine, if you are then theres nothing wrong with them.
