Are adapted height sensors legal on a second hand L322?

I'm a new RR Autobio 2011 owner with a couple of problems, would appreciate any advice.
This was an impulse purchase (I know) and I didn't notice until later that it permanently rides an inch or two higher at the front than at the back. A mechanic who looked at it told me that the front height sensors have been adapted with a metal insert to ride higher. He speculated that this was done because the car has had 275/55 Grabber tyres fitted on 20" rims and the front ones rub slightly against the brake hose as it is, if it wasn't riding higher the friction would be worse.
Is his explanation for the adaptation plausible? And would this kind of adaptation (the dealer told me nothing of this at they time and possibly didn't know about the non-regulation size tyres and adapted front height sensors) be legal for insurance purposes?

I would think its a mod that would need to be declared and "could" invalidate any insurance as the EAS has been "tampered with" and is not operating as designed.
Can't think why anyone would want to "pimp" it in this way other than they thought it looked "kewl" or macho.

Hang about for one of the more technically minded folks to come along though. But don't be surprised if they are critical.

Thanks- the dealer is stonewalling me, saying that it passed an MOT so it isn't his problem. Not sure what to do. Cheers
 
Get a second opinion on the roadworthiness of the car from someone like the AA/RAC. If you have documentary evidence that the modification makes the car unroadworthy, then the vehicle was unfit for the purpose for which it was sold, and you have a viable claim under the Sale of Goods Act
 
So Your tyres are rubbing on your brake pipes?

I would say that is unsafe, how will you be able to tell when it’s at the point of ‘just rubbed through’ - you will tell when your brakes fail and you plough into a tree.

Get shot of the drug dealer wheels and make it safe again.
 
As above, I'd very careful about this - you could be in breach of C&U regs in a number of ways .... headlamp levelling screwed up and all sorts ....

Search the forum for the info on wheel and tyre sizes AND ratings ......
