Hey all, long time no see..

I sold my hippo last year and miss it to **** (post derog comments below :D)

So.. i'm after another, but it must be the old rover engine 2.0 diesel and either cayman blue or possibly black, may consider others to be fair.
plus all the usual stuff like low mileage, tax, mot etc etc

I have around £1800 to play with

One guy is trying to sell me his 50th anniversary 3 door, 140k mileage, s reg 1999 for £1595, but it needs a new VCU (havent viewed it yet to know for sure its that), a new sump plug (so possibly new sump too) and a rear window motor. i dont think its worth that value, can anyone tell me if i'm thinking right or not?? or sell me yours if you have one your looking to get shot of lol

cheers folks

Hey linziloo I'm not selling but I just have to admire your taste I've got an XEDI L series and I love it to bits I hope your search proves fruitful if I hear of one ill be in touch good luck

I have an l series diesel freelander I use to have a td4 years ago and I much prefer the l series ok doesn't seem to go aswell but I have improved my l series from standard and have a really nice free recing freelander just by removing egr cleaning manifold out turning turbo up a little and fitting a big universal cone filter... All of above cost me less than £20

Just wish my IRD didn't blow a hole in case VCR cause it all and has taken the rear diff mounts 2 pop and my 3 amigos r still on but I got the car with abs problems and in need of 4 tyres and I only paid 1100 and mines a 2000 plate with fog lights and bull bar already one which was a bonus

Good luck with your search if I see any ear me ill let ya no but I'm based up north in Scarborough if its any use for you

Aww thanks guys, it totally has to be the rover diesel engine for me, so much more reliable i think, plus i quite like the overall look of it, its much prettier than the more modern ones, i like to tinker with my cars, no fancy electric for me :)

I'll update my thread if i do find one, as i don't think my budget will cover that one i mentioned.

There's one for sale near here in Stanton By Dale, probably a bag of **** though. Autotrader will have a few this time of year :). Make sure to budget and extra 1k for transmission trouble just in case!

No mines not for sale either but I love my XEDI hippo bought a few weeks agao . Got the VCU done first as it felt a bit tight and was worried about the rest of the transmission. Now perfect - even relatively nippy compared to my old gen 1 Jeep Cherokee (renault engine). I will give it a good test in a couple of months driving to the UK but engine seems great and for servicing looks very straightforward. Sorry this thread has turned inot an L series appreciation society!

I can't budget extra, that's why i'm looking for a decent one, without much work needing doing really, which is why i wanted to ask you guys what you thought about the value the guy has put on that one he's trying to sell me.

Do we think that the 50th anniversary 1999 is worth more than a standard one?

I keep thinking its more of a £900 car with the repairs that need doing, but willing to shoot a little higher as the rest of the car seems in really good condition as its just had the clutch and gearbox replaced. At least the guys being honest with me about the disrepairs too.

Thanks all for your replies

Hi linziloo did you decide to go with the 50th anniversary hippo or have you found something else ?
