Anyone tried the new General Grabber AT's yet?

Hi guys,

Thought I'd post this in general Landy chat as tyres are tyres. I've heard lots of rave reviews about the Grabber AT2, but I've heard almost nothing about the new AT model. They look alot less aggressive than the AT2 but from the look of them they would be a good mostly-road-use tyre. GG say that they out perform the AT2 off road but I'd need corroboration on that point. A user on anothr forum had this interesting point to make:

The problem is, not matter how good they are percieved to be by mags "trialling " them, if they don't look "macho" and set the tyre/car/user apart from the crowd immediatly, then they won.t sell!
Thousands of pounds are spent by enthiusiast's setting their car apart from others, making a statement that THEY are an enthusiast, not just a driver, tyres make up a VERY large part of that budget, and it has been proved across post's on this and other forums, that the IDEAL tyre, must perform to a degree, but must also look good and have some "street(mud) cred". The BFG AT does that admirably, and is the default tyre of most enthusiast's, a trial by a mag won't hold much sway with readers, as they will remember all the other tyres trialled and deemed to fit the bill...Cooper st's etc....and no matter if LRO have an orgasm over this tyre, I don't think it will sell in significant numbers.

He has a point, I'd put up the extra cash for BFG's if the AT isn't a significant performance improvement. Either that or I'll gamble with the Conti AT tyre, which I've heard have quick wear issues but are now OE on Defenders I think?

Of all the common AT brands tread patterns I like the Conti AT the most. Apparently they also comply with the new EU assf*&k we're about to get, but the tread wear reviews put me off a bit.

Glad the AT's are working out on your navvie though that's encouraging

Hads them on the mrs's CRV (sorry).

They are a good tyre, which perform nicely on the road/wet/snow.

You're right though, they don't look very agressive.
One thing that annoyed me about them is they are a bugger for picking up small stones which would take an age to flick out on the road.

Never used them off-road, so can't comment on their abilities in that regard.
