Been looking at various problems caused by overheating in the main underbonnet fusebox.

Mine does seem to get quite hot but there is only the slightest evidence of any burning (& no smell) on relay 7, and I wondered about fitting cooling fans or drilling vent holes similar to those tried in this thread:- http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/eas-over-heat-cure-234687-5.html - as sensible preventive maintenance as the problem seems to be caused by ageing components/a design 'omission'.:rolleyes:
Tried various searches but nothing relevant has appeared.

Whilst it's always a good idea to keep electrics/electronics cool there is a big difference between the two. The EAS box has a mechanical pump generating heat and some aged electronic components that will not appreciate this, and more so as they age. The fuse box generates heat because of poor electrical connections and simply cooling these will not cure this.
As long as you keep the fusebox waterproof you certainly won't do any harm but if it is getting hot then you should either be thinking of changing it or, if you're good with a soldering iron, stripping and 'servicing' it.
 
I have seen a mod somewhere on t' web from a guy in (I think) Australia.

He bought some higher spec relays and mounted them elsewhere in the engine bay. Then he made up some cables with spade connectors on them and connected up from the fusebox to the new relays.

His thinking was that the relays that control the HEAC fans are barely up to the job, and so using higher amperage rated ones, and moving them out of the fusebox might help reduce heat and burning in the fusebox. Even more of problem in Oz I'd have thought.

I suppose this theory relies on there being sparking when the relays switch in and out, but it might help? I was going to do it myself one day…(one day).

Unfortunately I can't remember where I found the write up, it was on somebody's blog, with good pictures though. If I ever find it again, I'll let you know.
