:D :D just bought my first Land Rover. Its a 1992 Defender 90 200tdi. Overall it appears to be looking ok and I luv it already. Only prob is a biggish one. The front drivers side shock absorber and turret are ripping from chassis and is currently leaning agains chassis at approx 10degree lean...menolikey...:( .I am hoping someone can offer some words of wisdom and advice. If anyone knows of a good welder in Central Scotland that can do some serious welding(I have been told it needs stick welding) which is new terminology to me. I stay in Hamilton and any advice/recommendations and prayers very appreciated.;) ..cheers folks.....John

send a PM to Busterbus he's from your neck of the woods. also you could try asking on Land Rover UK Forums as there's load of haggis bashers on there.

Stick welding is ARC welding using a solid flux cored rod instead of mig which is wire and gas It's how all welding was done before Mig came along. It's better for thicker metal.

will deffo drop Busterbus a line, cheers for that, as for yellow pages, I am sure there are loads of **** hot welder in it but I would most likely pick the **** one....always prefer a recommendation, no guarantees with that but usually safer.....aint these forum and modern technology wonderful for networking...cheers

Hi Discomania, thanks for the reply. My front suspension is leaning at a grim angle. The drivers side shock is leaning adle as the mount is tearing away from the chassis. I spent today out and about looking for someone who can weld...tried the Lanarkshire Welding company in Craigneuk but they dont do motors. They only do monster jobs like bridges etc. I eventually through asking about came across a place out near Carfin BOC factory. Run by an old fella and the majority of work they do is repairing icecream vans. He had a look for me and thought that even stick welding would merely tear again and reckoned it needed plated first. I am reasonably clueless about welding but he seemed pretty genuine and certainly appreared knowledgeable. Lots of icecream vans sitting around and after asking about later on it appears they have a good reputation. They dont tend to work on other vehicles but agreed I could bring it back next week. At the moment I am feeling pretty positive about the place but would be extremely grateful if I could take a drive by yourself prior to this for you to offer any advice. Having looked at your profile it looks like you know a helluva lot more than I do about Defenders...would be extremely grateful if you let me know where you are. I am off Friday , Sat this week and would be able to swing by for a quick chat and some advice.....would like to see your vehicles too as they sound good....cheers..John....my mobile is 07790847241
