Hi, i'm looking at getting a diagnostic tool for my Freelander and having been searching around the net for a bit i came across Autoenginuity. As the title asks.... has anyone here used it or currently using it and would they recommend it? It seems a lot cheaper than other diagnostics like Hawkeye or Nanocom.

It also claims to support the following list of sensors here:

LandRover Engine Module List

And the price for the lead here (software is free btw, just need to buy the cable as it will not work with any other) (cable is the first one on the page):

Order Online

The price as of today is 162.13 BP excluding postage which i think is not bad for what it claims to do.

So what do you think or is it a waste of time? any other diagnostic tools that do a better job or cheaper?

Thanks.

Last minute edit..... mine is an '02 reg, it says it covers it but is this the facelit version i.e. '52 reg supported?

Hui Frazzles,
Don't know the Autoenginuity but did get some US Palmer s/w after much searching like yourself.
Said it does all Ford inc. LR - same Chrysler, GM and Jap catalogue as yours.
It does have nice graphics and works extremely well on Fords etc. BUT it does not communicate with the LR system to unlock the access to ABS, SRS, Body ECU or any of the other systems that LR have locked off as "testbook only"!
The clue may be in the phrase "Actual sensor support is based on manufacturer discretion" - be carefull!!
If it has been LR licenced or they have cracked the lockout then you have a winner, if not check out the Bearmach system (think it's licenced), more money but it has good reports.
Let us know how you get on.

i have tried Autoenginuity with an elm327 (made in china one) ....never worked
But scantools, scanmaster and easyobdII work fine

For me, the best one is easyOBDII

Thanks TD john. ABS and the sort is what i'm after so i'll give what you mentioned a miss but thanks for letting me know that it doesn't pick up access to those areas. I'll fire an email to them and see what they say seeing as you picked up the "Actual sensor support is based on manufacturer discretion" bit, hopefully they will have support and a winner indeed.

mrey68, can you confirm the software you mentioned picks up the all faults or just certain ones like engine, service light etc. And as far as i know you can only use their elm cable to talk to a land rover with autoenginuity.

I'll get back to let you know what they say it picks up. If not, then hawkeye might be the next option.

yes..the softs takes just certain ones like engine (ECU is supported) and the MIL lights errors....but gasoil adjustment is not supported and it does not communicate with the LR system to unlock the access to ABS, SRS.
Its also possible to delete the errors.
The settings of scanmaster allow you to choose the errors database of land rover
I repeat autoengenuity never worked with me...cannot connect to my vehicule. I have an elm327 and its writen v 1.5a on the box, but as i opened it, i saw its a v1.2a, and scanmaster recogized it as a 1.3a version.

Autoenginuity got back rather quickly with an answer, basically it's only engine faults or as they they stated also in the mail "enhanced powertrain" so that's another one out the window.

Looks like hawkeye will have to be the way to go here as nanocom is a bit more pricey for me (or so i found on sites price wise). It's what i'm after instead of just the engine errors and i'm sure it will pay for itself in the long run compared to taking it to the garage everytime a light comes on (why do they charge stupid prices?).

Anyway, cheers mrey68 for shedding light on the software you use.

I agree with you, it pays for itself.. and talking and sharing about a fault code given by the diag is more relevant than telling that "today as i started my engine, i heard a BOINGGGG ..." I payed my elm 30€ and the softs are from the net...a single diag at LR costs here -90 euros.....

Did you buy the hawkeye in the end? I'm looking to buy one myself. These things can cope with LR's strange interface and also take codes off the Jatco auto via the same can bus interface.
