anyone help me radiator probs

fitted new radiator today on p38 2.5 diesel bmw engine but the pipe on top of the radiator on the right hand side as you stand in front of the vehicle where the pipe goes from the radiator in to the engine just broke away as i pulled the pipe off the radiator can anyone tell what this part is

Down load a copy of Rave ?.....

The bit thats broken off, was it part of the engine or radiator or post a picture of the damaged part???
