Evening,

As summer approaches I've thought about having my AC "fixed". When freshly regassed it works brilliantly, for a few weeks then back to rubbish. I assume I have a leak or an issue somewhere.

Testing with the Nanocom I can confirm the AC clutch enages just not without using the test function on the Nancom... So thats issue one.

I know the UK doesnt get that hot, that often but I often travem to france and got a few other trips planned. Plus ACis nice on the mway!

Thing is, is it actuay worth doing and generally how much can/could it cost?

Thanks!

Its worth getting done, did you get a vacuum test carried out to check for leaks before getting it recharged, its a must or you are throwing money away, it also removes any air in the system before filling so it is more efficient. Any good recharge company would do this as a matter of course before refilling. I had a new evaporator fitted after a fencing wire punctured mine. It was hell in the summer until I got it recharged and working again.

You will find they always do a vacuum test, sadly the machine will often pass the vac test with no issues but still have a leak whilst under pressure.
What you need is a proepr a/c man to pressurise the system with nitrogen then get out his soapy squirty bottle, thats how I found my very slow leak.

Nah youre alright there mate, I love the sunshine when it actually arrives hahaha

Good to know its actually worth fixing though. Got this place near me, any good?

Well they do a leak investigation service for 40 quid which is fully refundable if they carry out the repair, so got to be worth a look.
Have to say nowadays I wouldnt buy any car unless it had a/c fitted and working.

Bearing in mind you can buy a/c charge point adaptors off of ebay for not a lot, Ive often thought a simple and cheap way to test the system would be to use compressed air and get looking/listening for the leak.
I realsie you will be allowing moisture into the system but a good vac down should sort that with maybe a new dryer.

Yeah ill pop down Monday. Thing is though I dont want them coming back and saying itll be £3k to repair or something crazy.

Also just saw this -

I wonder if their condenser + fan is available on its own, looks far better and far larger than the LR one. I expect cheaper too

Just tell them moneys tight and can they ring first before doing any repairs?
TBH I dount they would go beyond the testing stage without authority as they want to be sure you want it done and of course can pay.

Ref the rad I would stick with std, bespoke is great and can perform better but theres always a trade off somewhere, accessibility, awkwardw/weird fittings/kinked pipes/rubbing pipes and so on.

that’s what i’m going to do with mine , by just putting a few psi in the system and then go round soap testing the joints , have got the low pressure side connector hose and gauge when i bought a DIY A/c kit

might be lucky and is just the O rings that have dried out and failed , then getting it vac down and re pressurised

I used 6 bar pressure to test mine, i asked the a/c guy the next day what pressure he used, he replied 10 bar!
So I doubt a few psi will tell you much, I think they run at about 4 bar anyway.

bless u and that’s very helpful, :):)

looking at the AC system, might be lucky and it’s leaking on the O rings by the dryer or on the RH side of the rad where there’s a small connector block ??

this is the simple hose i made up, i can either use a foot pump or air compressor , yellow hose connects to the low side of the aircon

I used to do some a/c work at my previous job before all the new F gas regs came out and the favourite was the condensor rad, pipes running through, followed by the pump itself, dont think I came across leaky o-rings which isnt to say they dont go wrong just Ive never seen one myself.
