I'm looking to do a full replacement set of tyres on my 2002 LR Disco2. My garage have "recommended" some Nexen 255/65/18 replacements as being better than the standard tyres (quieter and longer running). £96 each fitted.

I wanted something that was 70% road and remainder simple track driving but do use my car a fair bit on motorways so the road driving is important. Approx 8-10k miles a year.

Anyone have these on? or have experience with them?

yes, 18" wheels on mine - I'm a bit surprised by your comment as my car is a standard ES Premium car as far as I know with the standard ES 6 spoke alloys.. see pic below tyres are 255/55/18

sorry mate, i was under the impression that disco 1 and 2 came with 16 inch wheels as standard. i thought it was only rangies and disco 3's that had 18s on em.anyway, like i said, nexens are not too bad a tyre but ive never seen em with an all terrain pattern.

The DISCO 2 ES was fitted with 18" alloys I've just fitted a set of GOODYEAR WRANGLER for £120 a tyre, I looked at all tyres available but decided to go for the good quality, I took off a set of part worn Bridgestones which were rotational but didn't like them in case I got a puncture on the side that the spare wasn't designed for.

Dont know what type of nexen you get in england. I used to sell them in australia & they are not a bad tyre. Having said that they are still a hell of a long way from michelin, pirelli, goodyear & most other "name" brands. Anyone who can look you in the eye & tell you that they're better than the OE tyre is lying to you, however they were very good value for money when i sold them. What do the original tyres cost, what type of driving do you do & are you willing to go to a slightly lesser tyre if the saving is significant?

Price is not important. I am looking for a tyre that can handle wetter and wetter conditions in UK (on road), sometimes off road tracks, not mud. And, oh, it'd be great if they contribute to a little less noise in the cabin!!

Narrowed choice to the original OEM Goodyear Wranglers (£105/tyre) or Pirelli Scorion ST (£135/tyre). the latter are fitted on Range Rovers, I think..

Any ideas/thoughts please!
