Yeah, take it out and put a 200 in! They tried stickin a turbo on the 12 enjine making it a 19J and it dint cope very well so any noticeable upgrade is likely to affect the engine's reliability (not that adding a turbo to it was all that noticeable!)

After having a look through some other threads a few folks have talked about putting a K&N filter on would this give any increases in power economy. Reckon it gets about 25ish the now

Yeah, but if you look amongst the search results there's as many say it has no effect whatsoever as say it's a goodun! It's a known that adding any noticeable power output to the 12 engine makes it unreliable

Then it's not NA, it has a turbo. The turbo is what makes these engines unreliable i think, it's trying to force too much power from components which can't cope. The 19j was a stop gap for a bit of extra power while the 200 was in production.

The 19j has a turbo (look just to the right of the oil filler cap, from the front) - the 12 is the same engine (minus a few tweaks, like teflon coated cylinders and some slight mods to make it cope with the MASSIVE power boost). Try checking your VIN number, the codes on that should tell you what engine it should have in it.

Its a 12j then i know what a turbo looks like. Is there any other methods to gain any increase in the 0-10 time of 20 minutes. My dad would like to see about 30mpg or close to it

if they did, they wouldnt give it the same number would they. if you want 30mpg i suggest you only drive on the motorway at 56mph and slip the lorries.

my n/a will return 32 on the M4/M5 but city driving and offroad sucks the life out of it.

Its a 1984 when he got it the engine was smoking and drinking oil so an engine change solved it the engine looks the same as the one that came out but it was from a later year i think the oil housing thingy was different and a couple other things like the fan and some pipes
