Ive read that my alt on my 200tdi disco engine in my 90 may be a 45 amp alternator...

I have been pondering a second alternator for my winch battery but i just don't know where to start!!

Does anyone have any pics or advice so I could figure it out? thanks

Search for A127 alternator ebay has loads, I think std ones go up to 70 amps, marine ones over a 100amps

One last Q... What size copper cable do i need for around 70 amps, Would a jump lead be able to transfer it nicely or not. As when I put in my second battery i went through a voltage sensitive relay using a jumper cable..... I know that my winch will draw a lot of amps from my batteries and i expected that to make the jumper cable melt but it can't draw what the alts not producing can it?... So therefore should be ok right?

second one needs somewhere to bolt onto (on a 300tdi its the aircon empty space)

on the 200tdi its similar but they are ridiculously priced at about £110 for the bracket, without the alt, belt or pulley.

10mm sq will handle 70 Amps, but alternators can exceed rated current as they start to charge, so I'g go for 16mm sq, which is good for 110 Amps.

If you have long runs of cable it's also wise to go up in diameter too.

Excellent. Ill see how it goes when its all back on the road and i get stuck, if i use the winch for a while ill give the cable to the second battery a feel to see if its hot and melty lol
