Any lpg experts able to shed light?

Hi all, think ive got to the root of the spontaneous volcanic eruptions of coolant air locks on the 4.0 v8 - took it to the friendly local garage to have the thermostat changed and they told me to drive it on petrol only first and see if it happend, it didnt so they have suggested i get the vapouriser changed before i look any further as its apparently text book symptoms of a leaking diaphram. Rang an lpg specialist as the gargage dont do lpg work and they are quoting circa £350 for a new one fitted - is this in the correct ball park and can an old one be refurbished with new seals etc?

I think it depends on your make of system, but repair kits are available for some makes.

£350 for a new one sounds like a lot to me, but I'd do it myself and make a saving on the labour charge. Very easy job, four bolts, and a couple of jubilee clips.

You should ask the same question on LPG Discussion Forum • Index page, there are a few pro fitters on there that will gladly answer questions.

Try and find out the make and model first though!

Did you pay them something for the advice? Because you were looking somewhere else completely and still would be if they hadn't given you the benefit of their expertise. Horns of the dilemma: Get ripped off or be churlish to take the free advice but not give them the resulting business.

MrGorsky, Thanks i have a receipt in the logbook paperwork for nearly 4K for the system so assume it was a good one when fitted so will find the codes to get the model and ask there.

the garage i always use are brilliant and very honest, I took it as I thought it was the thermostat, they dont think it is and believe it will be the vapouriser so didnt change it, they dont do gas repairs (older guy who thinks anything other than petrol in a v8 is sacrilige). so i had to look elsewhere for the quote hence the question

i replaced the vap on my old v8 disco the unit cost me about £100 for a new one but you do need the make, normally it will be stamped on the vap unit you can get service kits but after speaking to blaze lpg conversions they said it is normally a waste of time and you end up replacing the vapouriser anyway.
blaze are just outside chippenham wilts and are excellent when it comes to lpg.

I had a dual vaporizer last year from RPI about £100 .

Replaced mine with a double Bigas from Tinely Tech in Cambs (they have a web site you can buy from).
It was £100. Needs to be sorted re pressures after fitting , but £350 is steep for a days work.
You may have to change some hoses and it may be a head gasket.
Went through all this and it was head gaskets. One day fine the next trouble.
Sort it out soon as you fill have to do the rad and waterpump to make sure its all ok again.
