As i have recently crossed from the Darkside...Aircooled engines...i have never had to deal with Radiators etc...having recently flushed and replaced the hoses and heater on my series 3 i am now faced with refilling the cooling system..and the web is not much help.

is it a case of 'topping up' the radiator whist the engine is running until you can see the level and adding antifreeze??

any advise would be appreciated

Simple with a Series. Fill up, start engine, keep an eye on it topping up as necessary until the stat opens. Fill level is an inch above top of fins and I usually bung a decent amount of concentrate in with the first fill.

Don't know too much about the series 3 engine, but the only advice I can offer is a) pre-mix your water/anti-freeze, the usual mix is 50/50 and b) on older engines I used to fill the system to the recommended level and then with the engine off and the radiator cap removed reach down to the bottom hose and give it a good squeeze a number of times, about once a second or more until the system "glugs" as the air locks start clearing, then top up the radiator to the recommended level, usually about half an inch below the neck of the filler cap. Run the vehicle as normal and recheck the level at regular intervals.
Since you're unused to liquid cooled engines, on a safety note, do not remove the radiator cap until the system cools down.
