Anti roll bars

Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice, i bought my d2 last year with a full MOT on it so only just put it through the MOT for the first time.

They've failed it due to the anti roll bars missing front and back, these had been cut out from the previous owner I assumed before the previous MOT as its something i havnt done.

The previous owner has also lifted it, am I right in thinking im in a situation now where I've got to re-install the anti roll bars and lower it or does the anti roll bars still work with it being lifted? I think its a 2" lift.

Any ideas on a way forward would be appreciated.

How would they even know it had them as std?
 
I mean, you can cut the rest off so nothing is there and then they can’t test it so it won’t fail. But I’d be inclined to replace them cause it sways like a cowgirl on a buffalo without them, in my opinion. If you did replace, you can get +2 drop links, which connect to the end of roll bar and the axle brackets. Is it a +2 suspension or body lift? Body you don’t need to do anything besides replacing with standard if you want to. All depends what your using the Landy for and how often really.

In the event you decide to replace them, I just happen to have a set for sale 😁

I suspect it would need to have either ARB’s or ACE rams on it. Neither just wouldn’t cut it. MOT stations are all linked now, so the ARB failure should flag up wherever he goes.

But if it’s not there they can’t fail it. They can only comment it’s now missing

And putting ARB onto a lifted motor won’t help if you off road as it restricts axle movements
 
Are ARBs really that sensitive to a 2" lift on a Disco 2?
My Disco 1 got an "accidental" 2" lift when I got an Indy to put heavy duty rear spings on and I followed his suggestion about putting the rears on the fronts.
Never did anything about the ARBs and they seem just fine.
I was far more bothered about body roll, more or less cured by using GAZ shocks, at the time, about 20 years ago!

I don’t think a 2” lift would affect the bars. They would just rotate slightly within the bush to compensate for the lift. I’m no expert on lifts though, so could be wrong.

I agree with you. The arms on the ends of the bars etc would have to be very short for it to affect them.

The rear arb flips with a 2" lift, been there done that..I made riser blocks out of 50mm box section as it handled like a sponge
on our twisty roads. Mine have 4" lift kits & have 4 linked rear axle, I also have a hydraulic bump stop kit to fit.
Should fit extended bump stops with a lift kit, castor corrected arms or bushes.

Yer well the only answer to this is:

"you would".
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

The D1 did roll like feck hence the Gaz shocks which made it much better, after the 2" lift it went back to where it had been before, which I lived with. But the stiffer springs also stopped it rolling too much to a certain extent.
I guess everything is a compromise. I weren't going off roadin nor nuffin!

I never had my D1 "flip" but then I doubt I drove it as spiritedly as you might, even in the Dales!!
