Anti-roll bar issue

Hi all,

I was just wondering if it would be possible to remove the rear anti-roll bar.

Will I have longer axle articulation?
Has anyone tried that before?
I realize that it would be bad on road.

It's a defender 90 Td5 2003

It will give more articulation but will fail the MOT, just remember to refit when it is due.

How many cm of articulation would it give?

They did it in one of the mags a year or so ago, I'll try and find it, may have chucked it though. From memory it did increase articulation but not by enough to warrant getting your hands dirty. And as stig sez you've got to bolt it back on for yer MOT, though if it want factory fitted then you should be Ok, and how a MOT tester knows who fitted it I dunno.

You can do it chap - but I wouldn't bother for the extra couple of cm's you'll get.

When I changed trucks last year, and from no roll bars at all to having front and rear bars, I considered having roll-bar disconnects fitted (vey common on J+*ps). TBH though I didn't notice the difference, apart from on-road because it goes round corners predictably. The other issue with disconnects is sudden failure mid corner - if the split pin comes out or fails you're kanckered.

The issues around MOT, handling, insurance, safety put me off. Went to the pub and planned some laning instead.

April 2006 Land Rover International. From what I can make out you'll get an extra 1" of travel, John Pearson the bloke who did the test and wrote the waffle recommended against removing it if its a standard Landie. He also said that if you do then tell your insurance company.
