Getting a VHF for my truck.
I really don't want to drill any holes.
I was thinking of mounting the antenna on the gutter but I am not sure.
Wheres the best place to mount?

Thanks.

what does the instruction read. or look at manufacture web site for instructions. If you can type here then type manufactor:D

The radio is actually for a boat I don't think they will have any instructions for running the antenna in a Defender.
Just wondering where others have run CB/VHF antennas on their Defenders.

Thanks.

depends on where you drive and how much range you want, plenty of front bumper mounts have been done.

you dont want to scat it off.

Ground planes are normally key to CB aerials.

On a Disco, the middle of the roof is best, but fenders dint have steel roofs!

I've seen plenty of gutter mounted ones and ones bolted in to the rear body panel either side of the rear door.

Mine's on the spotlight bar on the basis that the higher the better, I didn't want a mag mount, and its ground plane can still be the steel roof!

It works well :D

Steel isn't essential, aluminium provides nearly as good a ground plane.

Have got my CB aerial toward the front of front left wing;

Works very well have a constant SWR reading of below 1.3. ;)

If you're using a full length whip antenna the ground plane isn't necessary. If you're using a half length marconi anntenna you do need as best a ground plane as you can get. That being a large flat conductive surface at the base of the antenna. The roof or a flat wing is ideal for that.

Think I will use the wing, that way I can bring the cable in via the dashboard.

Hmm, I may even just put it in place of the radio antenna cause I never use it anyway.
That way I dont have to drill any holes.

Thanks.
