Got in it this morning, engine turned over, fired and died all within a second. I then spent the next couple of minutes turning it over before giving up and coming back in to search the forum. The Fuel pump sounds normal, it cranked over fine and starter sounds normal but no attempt to fire. If it's relevant it was 2°C this morning, I saw mention in a thread of problems when it's cold. Back out to the car, ignition on, let the pump run till it switched off, pumped the gas till it started again and let it run till it stopped, turned the key and it fired first time and has since done so everytime this morning. When the pump primed the second time the engine warning light started to flash but went off when the engine started, is this expected?

I've had the ECU out this morning and yes,the socket is full of oil so I'll order a loom later on. There's a photo walkthrough online for changing the injector harness and it mentions the problem is the seal/O rings where the loom exits the engine, do the replacement looms come with these included or is that a seperate part to order?

Is this the likely cause or should I be checking other things too? How do I clean out the plug and socket? How the hell does oil get all the way from the engine to the plug uphill along the loom, capillary action? More to the point what tw@t designed it so that could happen? Finally for now, I've never had the top of an engine off before  so is there somewhere I should be looking at and reading before I attempt it?

Thanks Griff, that'll save looking for the O rings. That's the how to I found but didn't like to mention it, I found out to my cost somewhere else that some forums get a bit funny if you post links to other sites. Of course this couldn't have happened 10 days ago when I had to order the air springs could it, oh no, two lots of P+P it is then. I've cleaned out both plug and socket at the ECU end using kitchen roll, CBA'd to clean the engine end, it's too cold and it may as well wait till I replace the loom. Anyway, it's back in and starting OK, lets wait to see what happens at 5am tomorrow morning
