Another TD5 Aircon Question

Hi Guys
recently bought myself a TD5 disco auto with climate control, when fitting my EGR delete kit i noticed that the clutch on the front of the air con pump did not have a bolt in the centre, when i pulled it the clutch came off, as its winter i just put the clutch on the shelf to look at later. My question is this, does the ECU increase the engine revs when the aircon is activated? the reason i ask is that if i turn on the aircon the engine revs rise even when the clutch is not fitted,
Also the clutch looks pretty worn can these be soured seperately?

You must be a very lucky person - the bolt came loose & fell off on ours last weekend. The clutch plate then dived into the radiator causing a variety of large holes & total water loss !
 
My clutch plate fell off about a year ago and I couldn't find a replacement part number so haven't bothered to fit a new one. I only discovered it when I was fitting my hella spot lights. It was very close to hitting the fan and I hate to imagine what damage could have occurred.

Hi, about that engine rev thing, the ECU definitely has major involvment in the clutch management but i didnt hear about such function, only to deactivate clutch if the engine load is high, though if you dont have the clutch anyway remove relay R11 and see if it makes any difference or not, you can't get clutch separately but would be interesting to compare only the clutch on a V8 with a Td5 one cos they might be the same then this should be good http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Compressor-Clutch-REPAIR-KIT-fits-Land-Rover-DISCOVERY-1994-2004-A-C-/111782340469?fits=Make:Land+Rover&hash=item1a06bf2775:g:ViYAAOSwVL1WBu9s&vxp=mtr
 
The air-con compressor is the same for TD5 & V8 & the clutch appears to be a common part with the almost identical Denso compressors off lots of VW / Audi / Seat / Skoda vehicles.
I've just bought a good s/h compressor from a breaker on ebay (Skan4x4) for £40 inclusive of delivery - so its almost not worth buying the refurb kits.
It's strange that virtually all the Denso refurb bits appear to be located in the US - you'd think somebody recognised there's a market in the UK ?
According to my brother, most of the VW/ Audi installations have the a/c compressor almost at the bottom of the engine - so they "see" a lot more road debris than on a Disco & therefore perhaps need refurbing at much lower mileages than Discos
