Another Landy Project....

So I thought i'd post some pics of my Landy project so far. It all started when my dad's Land Rover 90 engine died and he decided he didn't have the time or money to fix it.

I'd never owned a Landy before, but seeing as this one's been in the family for a long time, I didn't want to see it sold or scrapped. Too many memories....

So I sourced myself a 200tdi, the nearest of which was still fitted to an MOT failure range rover classic. I bought the lot for £400 and sold the rangey for £100 once I'd pilfered all the useful bits.





After a 400mile tow from West Wales to my place near Glasgow, I stripped out the old 2.25 petrol and had a good look at the chassis. Having decided to bite the bullet (as I want the Landy to last another 30 years) I'm now waiting on delivery of a shiney new galvanised 200tdi chassis which should be here in the new year.

Plenty of work ahead of me even once the new chassis and engine are fitted!



My plan is to have her back on the road next spring, with new seats and a new set of wheels and tyres.
I'll post up more pics as the project develops if people are interested.

Looks like a great little project. Those lift up handle doors look particularly good, what are the frames like?

sounds good, another one saved. what are the plans for it Paint? or just a re chassis and engine? I'm sure people will be interested.

The frames on all three doors are pretty rusty, but that's a job for another day (or year!).

As for paint, other than a decent clean I'll be leaving it as it is. Every dent and scratch has a story behind it, and personally I think it's how Landy's are meant to look.

New chassis finally arrived after 12 weeks;



And the strip down is well underway...




Also been busy cleaning up and repainting the new wheels (16x7);

Axles are off for shotblasting before I paint them





Also bought myself a new set of seats which should smarten up the interior

Them seats look like mini cooper seats
If so they sit to high for a 90 ur knees will be bang on bottom of steering wheel

Overdue an update!

So the rebuild is well underway with galvy axles, galvy cones, and complete set of new bushes and suspension;



I took the opportunity of a disc brake rear axle at the same time which only cost me £50.



Thoroughly recommend axles being galvanised, they've come up really well.

Seat box repairs - new side panels and an ali battery box.

looks great, how did you get the axles galvanised? did you have to blank of the ends?

Fully stripped down to the bare axle carcas/casing and had the whole thing galvanised. So the whole thing is galvy'd inside and out.

and does everything fit back in well?

Yep, no issues. Just need to make sure all threaded holes have studs/bolts fitted before it's galvanised. Saves having to tap them all out afterwards.

Long over due update as the Landy is now back on the road and has passed the MOT!

A couple of pics from the build;





And now finished and road legeal. I've cleaned up the plastics with WD40 and given the paint a good T cut;



I've spruced up the interior too with a seat retrim and carpeted the seat box;



The 200tdi conversion went pretty smoothly so i'll post up a pic of the finished install.

So that's the end of phase 1...... Next comes wheels and tyres, some more soundproofing and maybe a set of rear windows.
