Hi All

Some of you may remember the tale of my last holiday in my Disco to the lakes earlier in the year where I was losing engine power on hills. Turned out it was the air filter blocking the air intake.

So here I am on my way to Dartmouth on the A38 just outside of Exeter, massive long grind up. Over taking a lorry with foot to the floor and boom temp hits the red and I am loosing power again. Fortunetly handy layby just at the top. 20 quids worth of anti-freeze empties on to the tamac.

I am guessing blown head gasket. You can start the engine but sounds like one or two cylinders are away.

Anyways its in at Mick Hardings at Bovey Tracey. We'll see what needs doing. Whatever its going to be expensive.

I have to say at this point that Britannia Rescue have been amazingly helpfull and I would highly recomend them to anyone.

Just returning from holiday, cam belt expired on the M5.
RAC had to call out a tow truck and I eventually got to Lamb Hill garage in Cullompton.
Don't know the cost of the repair yet.
Anyone have the 'Thatcham' time for replacing the cam belt?
If it's expensive, I'll have to do it myself.

can feel for matey. Day before going on hoilday are clutch blew itself to pieces. So no hols for us. Hopefully it won't be to costly for you

Already had to shell out for rental car for next week as we are moving on from Dartmouth. Expected bill to be close to 800 quid to reapair the Disco. Seems a lot but I guess they know what they are doing at Mike Hardings place.

Cam belt change can be fairley painless if you can get the crankshaft nut off. Best to soak it for as long as possible before hand. The rest of the job is straightforward.

That sucks ! Same thing happened to me three years ago. I,d only had the Disco a few weeks when I set off for south Wales from Manchester. I got about fifty miles down the road before overheating.Blocked rad ! To cut a long story short it ended up costing me £750 and that was mates rates. Luckily I was only pulling a light camping trailor so I swapped it onto the wifes escort and we had a lovely week in derbyshire instead.Since then I have only had minor problems with the disco [apart from the usual rot]. Hope you get yours sorted without too much pain. Then again You could always buy a slitty  :D

Thanks guys,
Still waiting for the garage to give me an estimate.
They took it from Cullompton to their workshop in Whimple, so that's even further from home.
More hassle and more fuel to get it back home.
(Buying fuel comes hard to me as I make my own from used veggie oil.)

Managed to find a 63 page DIY guide with piccys on the net, so I'll hire a transporter and do it myself most likely.

watch out for people blaming it on the veggie :) I have an exhaust gas temp guage i ease right off when it gets to about 450 degrees
