There is a re sport 2.7 near me that’s going cheapish but it has a gearbox fault it selects reverse but no forward gears. Any idea on what this would be just wanna see if it’s worth what he’s asking

cheers

Hi

unfortunately how long is a piece of string as can be a multitude of things

Think that's a common problem and requires a recon/new box. or a strip and rebuild if your capable.
If I remember correctly if you can put it in 1 and it moves then to D and it continues it means xxx.

Personally if you are looking at a car with that as a problem price in a recon box +fitting then work out if its worth it. Remember there will probably be more problems.

Cheers I am learning as I go with rr lol. I had a jag a few years back that had a similar problem and is was the control board in the box was a simple fix

I will factor in a new box and see if I can work out a deal

is there a go to place for a recon box?
Cheers

may I ask plse if u have a scanner as may give u a rough idea regarding in what fault codes appear from the gearbox

Alas seen gearbox repairs ranging from getting a new solonoid pack for the mechatronic module, wiring harness , bridge seal etc along with things like bad / low ATF oil, which seeing you’ve done repairs before indeed understand repair costs can run away with themselves

Heard this company being recommended , plus dealt with them personally and found them very knowledgeable

with gearbox replacement & TC have seen many paying in excess of 3k +

thanks for the info need to think about this one although its very low miles not sure if its worth it racking up a potential 3k bill would make it an expensive jeep in todays market

Many thks and ur so welcome the info was useful to u

Plus with u not being able to test drive it due to the gearbox issue it’s if there are any other problems associated with it , including how long it’s been sat like that

Also seeing it’s winter time ur always pay more for a 4x4 , personally would look for one that’s been looked after, u could be opening a can of worms with this RRS

ps, don’t forget u might be put against the wall and shot for mentioning the J*** word, lol
