My landy 200tdi defender will not switch off when i turn the ignition off and with the keys out the ignition engine still running on tick over. I have checked the wire attached to the Fuel Solenoid and is still nearly 12 volts with the engine and ignition off. So to turn him off i have to turn on the wipers and the indicators sometimes the brake pedal as well for the engine to stop.. Godda love landys such personality freaks.

So my question is Do i have a faulty Ignition or a live feed from the Alternator? Not sure if thats possible.
I hope some1 here can shed some light on this problem i have its driving my to drink more Cider.
all this only when it rains or very wet roads.

Have a look at the back of your ignition switch, make sure the switch is working correctly. If it is, there may be a short between a permanent live and the solenoid feed behind the dash. The other items you mentioned - wipers etc should all not work with the ignition off. If they do, something is wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked at the back off the ignition and im not a 100% sure how to test if the ignition is working correctly. Only that when I pull the fuel stop solenoid wire off the engine will stop. Or without opening the bonnet I have to use the indicators and wipers to cut the voltage leak to the fuel stop solenoid. which then turns the engine off.. so would a new ignition solve this annoying problem. Does any 1 have a pic off the solenoid behind the dash so I can replace the right 1? cheers

Have you changed anything else electrical recently?? The reason I ask is I have a vauxhall omega years ago that would carry on running after the ignition was turned off as long as my foot was on the brake.
Several hundred pounds and a few garages later it was traced to a brake light bulb that I'd replaced causing a short.

If you can access the back of the ignition switch try the following: Start the engine, pull the white wire off the back of the ignition switch - the engine should stop. You probably need a test lamp or meter to go much further. Have a good look at the wires around the area - looking for any that may have rubbed together - particularly where they cross anything metal.

Ahh I meant Relay behind the dash sorry for any confusion.
Yup Pulling the white wire will stop the engine. But I have 12volts even with the ignition switched off, so the lights will work as well as wipers and indicators. Looking at the wiring diagram, live feed is from the starter motor then starter relay then splits to the alternator and ignition. So maybe a replacement alternator and ignition should solve this. Not a 100% sure though
No I haven't fitted anything electrical, I think something failing or short circuiting or a sticky Relay. but finding the fault is .......****......****

My brains are mashed
WOW it was easier when I found a leak in the fuel tank 3 years ago, That was an easy fix.

Well after many hours under the bonnet & inside the dash I have stumbled what I hope is the cause of all my misery and hand in my head moments. Turns out to be the rear wipers, yeah! who would have thought it huh... at the fuse end with the ignition off there was a voltage leak of some sort because even with the fuse pulled out the wipers would move. so I disconnected the retched little bliter and hey presto no voltage leak anywhere not even at the fuel solenoid which was the cause of the engine running with the keys out of the ignition.
Onto the next issue.......

Thanks for all your input though, appreciated
