Good evening/morning!

This may end up being quite an extensive post by the time I explain it all...

Phone call today saying freelander 2 (2.2 TD4) has cut out. Struggle to keep running etc. We went and trailered it home anyway and not really any the wiser on the fault (it's pouring down so haven't looked in depth other than opening the bonnet and not seeing any peaks etc)

Starts first time everytime

Will cut out if you don't keep revs up

If you try and pull away it can struggle to keep revs up high enough before it cuts out

Slight blue smoke when you first start it but after that it appears white. It was minus 5 today so could just be cold? Wasn't thick thick white so it's possible

EML on

Engine oil about halfway down dipstick. Only done about 100 miles since it was serviced and was full then.

Came up on dash saying it needed coolant the other day so they topped that up.

Got fault code P2562 - maybe unrelated

Any previous experience with this or advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Check the boost turbo sensor in the air duct, also if you still have the spring clips in the air duct change these for jubilee clips, what year is your FL2, do you only have the one earth strap coming from the battery ? let us know please. also how old is your battery.

Hey,

It's a 2008. We have had it around 3-4 years and not changed the battery so unsure on actual age.

Is it the MAF sensor you want to check or the MAP sensor?

Yeah just one ground

It has been running fine as we drove it in for its MOT and also back and forward to town a few times which totals about 100 miles overall. Just all of a sudden the coolant warning came on (maybe unrelated). Topped it up and was fine. Started this morning at minus 5 degrees and it was rough. Drove a mile and cut out. Now it just coughs and splutters away. Driving it is near impossible, no power at all. Takes about 10 seconds to get from 900rpm to 1500 and it maxes out there

Sounds like **** fuel, new filter required, not filled with petrol by chance ?
It just had a new fuel filter about 100 miles previous so I wouldnt have thought the filter.

For fuel, I would normally say no but they did fill their diesel Audi with petrol last week. Hence them having a shot of the land rover... If I pulled the fuel pipe off the filter, should be able to smell if there's petrol in it right?

The whiteish smoke out exhaust does smell funny. Not like coolant or oil or diesel. Just different to how they usually smell

Fine spot by the sounds of it.

Wonder what's going on with the loss of oil and coolant though? Other problems, side effects, or poor service?

Definitely a good suggestion so I thank you above for that. No reason a fuel cap would be smelling of petrol and explains the performance and weird smell of smoke out the back! Will drain tank and replace filter then push the diesel through it. Will be crap for a few mins till diesel gets through the lines etc but should come okay.

Yeah coolant and oil is another thing for sure. Serviced every year and only does about 3000 miles a year too. That's for another day though. Glad it was wrong fuel I guess and not something catastrophic

If the oil went from full to 1/2 way down the stick in 100 miles, "another day" will come rather quickly.

I'm not sure if having petrol in a diesel system could lead to other problems once drained - eg damage to seals in the pump etc. Might be worth checking as if its a garages fault for putting the wrong fuel in their tanks, then you need to make sure they fix any faults as well.

Yeah for sure. Don't use it all that often so I mean just fix fueling problem over Christmas then after Christmas I can get into the coolant oil issue :)
