 i still have this intermittent squealing on the old girl and i'm pretty certain it's from a brake sticking as i can smell a hot smell when i've stopped, can't work out why it's not doing it all the time tho:confused: is it possible for a brake drum to warp? hubs says brake pads are fine btw.
any ideas/ suggestions

Next time you stop from a drive check every wheel and see if there is one hub hotter than the rest ( sticking brake on that wheel ) but careful you dont burn yourself . As it does sound like a dragging brake.

.

What handbrake cable?

Ignoring the lack of cable, yes it could be a sticking h/b. Feel the drum after a run, it should be cold. Perhaps a bit warm if the gearbox gets hot, but it shouldn't be hot.

As above, one of your brake slave cylinders could be beginning to sieze, ie not returning to its normal position.
