I've been chasing down the rattles in my Defender. I know that I won't sort of all them, but she's already a LOT quieter than before.

However... I've got an annoying squeak that appears to be coming from behind the instrument cluster - or somewhere? It's on bumps in the road and it's a high pitched eek eek as something rubs on something else.

I replaced a bulb in the temp gauge the other day and sprayed loads of furniture polish in there to hope that some would wind it's way into whatever's squeaking, but I'm not even sure it's where the squeak is coming from. Any suggestions as to how to find it or cure it?

One component of my squeaks and rattles is a place where the bonnet rubs on the wing. A little grease on that sometimes sorts it out for a while.

It's probably the black bonnet rollers that go into the bulkhead brackets.
Put a touch of grease/silicone to try.
I’ve oiled the hinge and like magic the squeak has gone.

I’ve also cured the squeaky clutch pedal by oiling the pivot on that as well. The Defender is never going to be like a modern car but it’s getting a little quieter and more civilised.
