Hi there.
Just wondering if anyone might offer me some help with a couple of issues please?

Freelander 2, 2013, 2.2 Diesel model.

The first one is a squealing noise coming from under the car.
High pitched, sounds a bit like metal to metal contact.
This doesn’t happen constantly, it starts after about an hours driving, lasts around an few dozen miles then dies away, until the next trip.
It stops if I press the brake or move the steering wheel, then comes back again. Weird…
I’ve read about the differential bearing issues, but this seems to be too intermittent, usually only happens once per trip. Even weirder…
Wonder if it could be a wheel bearing or brake disk?

The other issue is intermittent loss of power, usually when I try to accelerate, seems to just hang, lasts a few seconds then goes away.
Happens only occasionally per trip, not a constant issue.
The car has 68K on the clock and has had regular servicing.

Thanks in advance for any pearls of wisdom that might save me some headaches and (hopefully) some cash.

If you apply the brake very slightly does the noise go away? If it didn't make any difference to the speed when braking then I would be thinking brakes.

The power loss... is it only when yer put yer foot down quick? Does it do it at all speeds or just at certain engine revs?

Power loss can be caused by partially clogged fuel filter, particularly if you've ever put some unleaded in the tank. Doesn't really explain the intermittent nature of your symptoms though.

Do the two things happen at the same time? If so, check your handbrake isn't binding.

Thanks for the feedbacks.
Touching the brake, even gently stops the squealing, it comes back straight away.
Dies out completely, eventually, until next day.
Turning from side to side causes it to vary too, which was why I thought it could be the diff.

The power loss occurs on pulling away in second to third, or third to fourth. Very occasionally I notice a slight deceleration when cruising at the 65-70 mark.
Not sure if either of that helps, but thanks again.

Touching the brake slightly and it stops squealing... I would check the brakes if it were mine.
