I had a couple of issues with my central locking on my 2001 Vogue that I finally fixed over the weekend.
First problem was that the central locking would lock and unlock a number of times in quick succession. This happened either when I first unlocked the car with the remote or when driving along at random intervals. I got into the habit of locking the car when driving as this stopped the symptoms.
Second problem was that when the front passenger door was opened the courtesy light never came on and nothing came up in the information centre to warn that the door was open.
The second problem was the clue to where the issue was. That and the fact that when the locks were bouncing the passenger lock remained unlocked with the other 3 locks doing the locking unlocking thing.
I read all about door lock issues on rangerovers.net so had a good idea what to do. Although no one seemed to have the bouncing issue as I had.
So I bought a new passenger door lock from Island 4 x 4 and fitted it Saturday. All now appears well. No bouncing so far and the interior light works as does the information centre reporting when that door is opened.

One other thing I decided to do was replace all the exterior door handles has they were turning white with age (poor UV stabilisers in the plastic I presume) and made the car look nasty. All the back to black chemicals I’ve tried never lasted long. As my car body colour is Java black they really stood out like a sore thumb.

One other success story is I can now play my iPod through the standard stereo system. I had my Alpine OE head unit modified by Roverville UK who added an AUX jack on the front panel to allow iPod to connect. Once I have the cradle I’ve ordered it should make a neat install and charge the iPod too. I like having an old looking head unit in the car as it discourages the light fingers masses from breaking into the car for the stereo. Who’d nick a cassette player these days? Who even owns cassettes these days? The other reason to keep it all standard is the built in Sat Nav and steering wheel controls. I didn’t want to risk breaking those with an aftermarket head unit.

All fairly trivial stuff I know, but it's another couple of jobs done. Have to fix the heated seats before winter now.
