An idiot asks..... "Silicone intercooler pipes?"

My old intercooler hoses have internally collapsed, so I went out this morning and got some silicone ones for £55.
However, they are a little different. On the original ones there is a junction with a pipe going off to some sort of valve. On the new ones there is no such junction.
So, what is this valve? What does it do? What happens if I blank it off?

Old top pipe in place with new pipe next to it.

The junction on the old top pipe going off to a braided hose and whatever this bloody valve is.

The valve.

In advance, cheers.

thats the EGR valve. Remove it, it will get you a touch more power back. You should unbolt it, or at least unbolt the pipe which is what I did, then bolt a piece of sheet steel over it to keep the fumes etc in. Then try again, sorted! Look inside the inlet pipe after that point if you dont believe me, look at just how gunked up it is.

Ok. Now I'm really confused.

I was under the impression that mine, (manual box and throttle cable), didnt have an EGR valve?

If it does, then what does an EGR valve actually do? Is it something to do with emissions? Will it make it run richer / leaner? Does it help with hot starts / cold starts?

I apologise about the stupid questions, but I dont I'm by no means an expert. Sure I can change a set of pads and other basic stuff, but thats about it.

Cheers.

Exhaust Gas Re-circulation. Basically recycles some of the exhaust gases. complete waste of time!
You are thinking of the electrickery to do with the fuel pump. manuals wont have this it is only late autos i think.
A lot of 300's have egrs I have only seen a few without. probably really early ones.
Bin it!

300tdi has 1 all it does is when the emissions get too high it dumps um back into your inlet pipe
think i might be right in saying you have a small ecu that just controls the egr valve and you can remove um both but dont hold me to that , pm ratty he'll put you straight on it ;)

Yup! Just bin it, Won't cause any problems with MOT.. Infact if i remember correctly it runs cleaner with out....
