Hi
Has anyone ever fitted an ammeter to their modern Landy?
Given the sensitivity to battery health many modern systems have, it sounds like a useful addition to keep an eye on your battery.
Thoughts? I'm tempted.

Nah just keep the battery on a smart charger when inactive for extended periods.

Oh and make sure its a good battery to begin with.

that will certainly help! it wont highlight any battery drain or a weak alternator

It would a Ctek will tell you how many times and by how much it's having to top up the battery, for any given period./

Of course the £4 from B&Q ain't gonna do that but the posher one will.

As for a weak ALT a multimeter will tell you what its pumping out. ;)

I'm not well up on alternators, of they drop the amps, does the bolts also go down?
An ammeter will tell me when a battery is getting full as the amps inbound will drop off.

Healthy Alt will kick out 14+v when running

If it dips below 13.5 then expect an alt that is wearing out, if it goes below that then its dead

I think @gstuart has fitted to a disco.
He may pop in from the dark side to help ;)

Hi buddy

Dark side , made me laugh ;)

Haven’t got an amp meter fitted but a dual battery volt meter , so can soon see if there’s an issue with volts not being what they should be

Did look at amp meter , but dropping volts will also tell me there’s an issue , my alternator is 150 amps , system will run up to 15.8 Vdc

First pic is off the web site , bought the individual gauges, also wanted to ensure it didn’t look like a dogs dinner so indeed took months searching out the panel and gauges

When not in use I plug mine into a CTEK which constantly monitors the battery’s, also installed a 12s socket on the front of the house so when I pull onto my driveway can charge the disco up via the 12s socket , charger is in the hallway

Fitted a Battery monitor app last year, this was before I had to fit new batteries,

Yeh i know I need to get out more , lol

Cheers for the detailed reply!
The 12s outside sides like a genius idea, I presume connected to the ctek?
Have you got an equally cunning answer for the vehicle side? Our do you still lift the bonnet?
What's the app you use and what does it connect to?
Cheers

Found the app you're referring to, looks useful though doesn't get great reviews.
Why on earth does an app the uses Bluetooth need permission to wifi and gps if it doesn't use either? Not expecting an answer, just venting frustration at Android and app developers!

Hi

Don’t have to lift the bonnet as I charge the vehicle through the 12s socket on the driveway , where I’ve mounted the box on the front of the hous I drilled through the wall and have the CTEK there

So on my drive I simply plug the lead in , then go indoors and turn the CTEK on, will keep both my batteries fully charged

To save me buying the 12s kit I made up my own lead with a fuse box , just bought the trailer wire and conecctorns s

Which app are u referring to plse as there are several

Hope that helps and of course plse give me a shout
