Ammeter

Just been given a landy ammeter,any ideas how to fit or the easiest,as if I get it wrong,wooosshh

OK - first dumb question - how many amps is it and does it have a remote votage drop or is it all in one?

Really, all you need to do is insert the ammeter into the feed from the battery cable to the wiring harness (speaking in generalities here - don;t know what car you're planning to fit this to).

This way, the current flowing into the harness from the battery and back out of the harness/alternator to the battery runs thru the ammeter.

If it's an alternator type Landy can I suggest an ammeter is of limited utility and you'd be better off with a voltmeter? This way you're also not running all the current in your car save the starter through the bulkhead and into the passenger compartment...

Though two different types of measurements, use a voltmeter along with your charge light as battery monitoring unless the ammeter is shunted.

The older non inductive ammeters required you cutting the alternator charge cable, running an extended length of same gauge cable where you ammeter was going to be placed and another lead out to the other side where you cut.

Take it back to your friend for an exchange, tell him a true friend will get you a nice voltmeter instead

My military FFR one came with a shunted Ammeter. I had never seen the use of a shunt before so I had to read up on it I really should sell it at some point, it's probably worth a few bob.
