we possibly need to buy a new car, i love the look and the go anywhere appeal of a disco, as i understand disco 1s are much simpler and les likely to have anything that you cant see or feel go wrong (such as lecky issues and sensors etc..) and handy spanners at home can look after it.

Will have a max of £2k to spend, we occassionally need 7 seats (i know disco 1's are not ideal but its for the odd school run that is half a mile away)

other than the rot of the sills, rear arches and boot floor is there anything else to be seriously aware of, leaky sunroof or two doesnt bother me as id imagine they are a simple if a long winded fix (or seal the bleeders up)

Diesel preferred as the short runs id be getting less then 10mpg with a V8, and the ability to tow a car trailer is a huge bonus (as i break cars and need to collect them)

Any advice, even if its a 'with £2k dont bother' would be most welcome.

cheers

i would like a V8 but its the fuel economy, whats the difference with a 300tdi and a 200tdi?

sometimes im paranoid about the horror stories you read about, i also sometimes forget that its only the bad things people post up, not many people post that their landy has been reliable and never had a problem

Not much difference engine wise as both are good for 330k + if cared for. The 200's have a bit more low down grunt, but the 300's are a tad better cabin wise inside. Post 94 300's had a bit more electrickery but nothing major so not really a worry. Main differences are cosmetic. Your biggest issue will be rust if opting for a D1.

just out of interest and whilst i appreciate these are heavy old buses, what sort of mpg would i get from a diesel - and whats the strongest gearbox, auto or manual?
