Am I being over charged?

:)

I recently fitted a new battery to her ladyship, as the one that came with her had quite corroded terminals.

Worse than that, it used to get pretty warm and had actually sprung a wee leak, which ****ed against the oil bath filter wotsit.

But I've noticed after a longish run that the new one is starting to hiss, and is also quite hot at the top and sides.

Any ideas what's up?

Cheers

Ken

Sounds like your alternator is over charging your battery and cooking it.

Check the alternators output 14.6 volts max usually about 35 amps reducing as the battery is fully charged to about 3-5 amps.

A pal has recommended an Auto Electrician he trusts, and as she had a wee electrical fire and some wiring is fooked anyway, I thought I'd let the testing be done by someone that is more qualified than me!

I'll ask him to chech that.

Thanks

Hi

Bessie is currently under the care of Partick Auto Electricians.

Whilst there, I've asked them to check that over, also the fact the fan doesn't work, (it's not the fuse - I wish it was that simple) and also the fact that one headlight is not as bright as the other, and that's after fitting a brand new one. So, there are earth issues abound I think!

I shall let you all know.

Cheers

One new alternator fitted and she seems very happy now.

It was charging at over 18volts, which is bad, very baaad, or badda boom, I think if I'd left it much longer.

Thanks to all.
