Another method:

Take apart the pulley wheel. Read the number off the bearing, and contact Home or any bearing supplier and buy a new one. You may need a puller to remove or fit the parts. £60 from ebay to a 10 ton version.

I´m not sure I´m up to doing that - I´m not much good with cars. I´ve just replaced the timing belt today (first time I´ve ever done it) and was cr*pping myself in case I did it wrong! So I don´t think I want to pull the alternator apart.
