Hi,
Can anyone tell me what´s the part number for the alternator on a 2000 1.8 petrol? The bearings on mine squeal like a pig so I´m trying to find a secondhand one.

Another method:

Take apart the pulley wheel. Read the number off the bearing, and contact Home or any bearing supplier and buy a new one. You may need a puller to remove or fit the parts. £60 from ebay to a 10 ton version.

I´m not sure I´m up to doing that - I´m not much good with cars. I´ve just replaced the timing belt today (first time I´ve ever done it) and was cr*pping myself in case I did it wrong! So I don´t think I want to pull the alternator apart.

Serch the web. There's companies out there you can send your alternator to and they'll fix it, then return it. Will be a bit cheaper if you can wait a little. Or you can buy another and part ex yours for a discount. Usually £70 ish discount. See links below:
