Hi all,

Just been reading the rave manual section on swapping the rear diff. Mine is noisy and has at least on knackered carrier bearing, oil has leaked from the knackered bearing and I fear that the diff may be beyond repair.

Rave mentions 2 land rover specific tools to do the job
LRT-51-013 : Centralising Jig
LRT-51-014 : Drive shaft removal tool

Are there tool required or are there cheaper alternative that could be used?

Other than those, the job doe not look overly complex.

Thanks

Did my front with hammer and sockets:)

didn't realize it was a freelander, freelander section should have been a clue:rolleyes:

You'll be fine......there's not that much play when you tighten everything back up.
For the drive shafts I find a piece of wood and a hammer removes them quite easily.

when i did the diff seals on the drive-shaft i just used 2 screwdrivers and pryed and they pop straight out

Driveshaft removal is done with a hammer and a blunt chisel/punch.

When you come to realign the rear diff. Tighten both rear mounts up. Then start the bolts on the front mount, lift it up to the midway position and tighten the bolts. That should do you fine.
