Hi all
I have just bought a Freelander 1.8 SE 2005 all is good but i thought it was a bit weird that the indicators didn't flash when I locked it i have now realised that the alarm isn't working either ie the red light on the dash isn't on but it flashes and beeps when I open the drivers door sometimes though not all the time
Just wondered if someone could tell me where the actual alarm is so I could check the wires etc or if anybody else had experienced this??
Please help its doing my nut!!!
Thanks in advance

Hi the flashes and beeps after unlocking means that the battery in the fob is going flat.

The indicator lights flash on lock/unlock can be turned off using a laptop.

The alarm is run from the CCU - test it by locking with the key not the remote and open a door

Hi ok so will I have to go to a main dealer to be plugged in? Also what is supposed to happen when I lock it with the key nothing does? So I've replaced the battery and it no longer flashes or beeps can the alarm be disabled by plugging it in still nothing from the alarm

Open a window and lock the car using the key in the drivers door the lean in and open the door - does the alarm go off?

Or you can open the bonnet and in the lh corner by the windscreen is a switch for the alarm to know the bonnet is open. Push this down and lock the car using the remote and then release the switch - does the alarm go off?

Is this a UK spec car ?...just wondering as I came across this thread with similar issues - turned out there was no alarm fitted - the guy was in Trinidad.

Just been reading the 10AS Security Manual and it says "in certain countries the alarm is programmed not to arm under any circumstance"....so if you are in one of these countries or the Freelander has been imported from one - thats why.... If indeed this is yer problem then it might be re programmable.

Ahh brack finally a reply well it is registered in the UK bought in Skegness brand new and it is a 2005 model so I thought every vehicle manufactured after 2002 had a factory alarm fitted for insurance purposes? Maybe I'm wrong. I have just read about there being an alarm receiver underneath the speedo on the dash would you think if that was unplugged it would immobilise the car or just deem the alarm useless and not arm!?! If it is the latter then that could be my answer maybe they disconnected it because a sensor was dodgy and kept going off

Yes obviously it should have a working alarm then, Really think you need to go to a Land Rover specialist with it to get it checked out - enough has been said about alarms on an open forum imho ;)

When you say alarm receiver are you talking about the RF receiver which sits behind the speedo. This unit receives the RF signal from the remotes.

Yes hippo I have replaced that and still nothing the only option I have left is to replace the CCU I guess yeah I suppose it defeats the object of having it if we are talking about all the wiring and that

Sounds as if the config has been set up as no alarm - maybe previous owner had a dog?

Would recommend before replacing Ccu to get it plugged into a LR diag unit or autologic and get the config checked
