Hi guys

Whats best way to find leaks etc on pipe connectors and air tank.

Nothing is obvious and showing itself but iv clearly got a leak somwhere as it keeps over heating pumps.

Does the car go down overnight?
Are you sure the compressor is not just worn out, some do even without a leak.

What’s the car pls?

Its a 2008 range rover sport
Does not go down overnight dont go down over 2 days. Iv replaced it with 2 pumps now.
One recon and one genuine was all calibrated properly and set and again within a few days got the amber light on and now and again flashes red tells me max 30 mph
 
Was the drier changed at the same time?

Sounds like it need diagnostics and a good look at results. Do you have any?

And a bit of @gstuart might not go a miss either:)

Give it loads of spraying around the tank and fill line see what you can see first.
Maybe the suspension side is good and it’s the storage and tank side that has the problem.

Iv changed everything other than the air tank. Its been to many garages. Thing i notice is the pump kicks in frequently aswel thats whats making me think a leak somewhere.
Its having 1 last try then il be replacing the whole set up with coilsprings im sick of it to be honest

There’s no need to change to coils, the guys here will help get you through.
What pump did you fit Hitachi or AMK and what was in originally.

it’s costly to keep sending to a garage especially if they don’t understand the system, do you have basic tools to do stuff yourself?

Not very mechanically minded so cant do much myself i end up breaking things. Previous was AMK but a copy one so thought it might just be because its a cheap pump so got a genuine one and its done the same again. Light has come on and slow raising fault.

tend to agree with @marjon ref air tank, when the vehicle is turned off the reservoir valve block isolates the front and rear valve blocks

it however does do a self level check around every 6 x hours , opens and closes the front / rear valve blocks

Air tanks are very common for leaking , right on top where the seam is

u can pressure test the air tank with it in situ , using a pump/ gauge , or even a vacuum pump/ gauge , what ever u have to hand

compressor shouldn’t be running frequently, unless of course there is a leak

What fuse did u pull and leave over night please

if it doesn’t drop overnight but u hear the compressor keep running the first port of call would be to ensure the air tank isn’t leaking , also bubble test all round the connections and compressor

best to start with the basics and then ensure everything is 100% sound before moving on through the system

know ur tempted to change over to coils but please resist doing that as personally I think you’re ruin it

hope that helps and ur find plenty of us here to always assist u go through the system to find the issue
 
Also meant to say

ur new compressor , is it also an AMK, if it’s an hitachi or dunlop u must replace the relay that came with the new compressor and also update the software

There should be a code with that in the system. Which may lead to something else.

The AMK does run more often so they say, supposedly cos it runs slightly lower pressure. But should still work fine.
I don’t know when the switch was made, and as @gstuart has said if it was an Hitachi then the software needs changing.

Still think you need to get the fairy+H2O in a Spray bottle first. Surely you can’t break that:eek:

Thanks guys. Both pumps replaced have been amk ones. One chinese copy the other genuine amk.
Replaced relay under bonnet on both occasions when i changed pumps.
Was all calibrated and set up both times.
To my knowledge the air tank have not been checked so i have bought myself some leak detection spray so going to check it the weekend and see how it goes.
Its driving me insane and now running out of money.

hiya

always a team effort mate and indeed plenty of us here to always help

picture is of my old air tank, u can see the bead on top of the tank , that’s where they 9 times out of 10 leak

alas with it being on top of the tank u can’t see it whilst being fitted

u either have to remove the pipe out of the reservoir valve block in order u can put pressure gauge on it to test or remove it to test

plus leak detection spray u can make up some soapy water put into a spray bottle

understand the frustration, was the same with mine , had more leaks than a colander, took me ages to find the leaks, blocked pipes, failing valve blocks, wires , the list went on and on but just took my time, stepping back sometimes for a cuppa

ur be a lot happier keeping the air suspension, we all know what it’s like so ur not alone

so Plse don’t think ur alone, plenty here to offer advice / guidance

also have u got diagnostics plse

think we’ve all been there where it’s driven us nuts

When I bought mine I think it took longer to sort out the bodges that previous owners had done, plus had more leaks than a vegetable plot , lol

must admit at the end of the day, this disco has been my favourite so far , still think my next one will be another D3 but with the Jag 4.4 V8 engine

Is it alot of work taking the air tank off to check for leaks properly ornis it more work to it than it sounds.
