Hi all,

i'm looking to purchase a 1996 RR 4.6 HSE and I have a couple of questions i'm hoping you will be able to help with.

It has an single point LPG system currently fitted

Can this be upgraded to a multipoint and why is a multi point better?

The air suspension is slow to rise but once warmed up it apparantly works fine

Any idea how much it would cost to replace the air suspension and compressor? I would have to get this done at a garage as i'm no mechanic.

Thanks all

what brand are the lpg components ? was it a pro fit or diy ?single point lpg is simple and reliable it just mixes gas with air on the induction, also easily adjusted,it can be upgraded to multipoint but its more complecated.ive had a fair few of both and if its already running good on singlepoint lpg leave it alone but if i was having a new system fitted from scratch i would go for multipoint as ive found it to be more economical,(but i hate the ticking noise from multipoint) as for air suspension it will be costly at a garage but if you can do it yourself parts are fairly cheap as long as you can diagnose the problem part(s) first

Welcome to the forum.
Firstly, can you please amend your profile to show your rough location as I am a miserable old git who has a thing about that as there may be someone local who may be able to help you out at some time.
Right...rant over !!
The single point system is not the best for the P38 because of the engine closed loop and adaptive controls..that is to say, that the ecu controls correct fuelling through a feedback system from various sensors to optimise emissions and fuel consumption together with performance. A multi point system has the ability to "Talk" to the engine ecu and adapt to maximum efficiency automatically. This is a simple explanation, there are others on here who are more conversant with LPG who can elaborate with more detail. You would have to change the front end hardware but as the tank, pipework etc. is already in existance, it's relatively an easy job...you should get it certified afterwards however, to keep your Insurance company happy.
Regarding the air suspension..It's not the Green Eyed Monster that people make it out to be. Usually, the main problems encountered are Compressor seal related which is an inexpensive easy fix (£25 for the seal) and 45 mins. time, and worn air springs (Approx. £250 for the set) and say, half a day to replace..again, can be relatively easy to do. One of the good features of the P38 is the air suspension system and many of the advantages are lost when a coil spring conversion is done (Approx. cost £400) especially with regard to comfort and handling.
Hope this helps.
