Hi Guys
I'm new to the site, so hello.

Last night whilst driving home my rear drivers side air bag exploded with a big bang. I got recovered and have replaced the air bag today.
When I turned the engine on the suspension raised but the drivers side (the side that exploded) raised higher than the passengers side to the point of full height. I have checked the solenoid diverter valve and bench tested it and that seems to be working fine, released pressure in the system until both sides are sitting on the bump stops and restarted the vehicle. Again the back end raises then the drivers side keeps raising until it seems to stop at maximum height. I fear that the reason it exploded in the first place is that the ride height sensor has gone faulty and the compressor has over inflated the bag. Both ride height sensors are new genuine land rover ones as they were replaced when I had the chassis done about 6 weeks ago.
What are peoples thoughts?? Is it likely that a new ride height sensor has gone faulty or do you think it's just lost it's callibration. It's been working fine for the last month then just happened out of the blue.

Hi, Make sure the arm on the RHS hasn't become disconnected, especially if you've been off roading or in deep snow. Do you have or know anyone with nanocom etc to re-callibrate them. Was the battery disconnected when you changed the RHS? If not then that's why they've lost callibration.
Other suggestions will be made soon.

Hi Griff

The battery wasn't disconnected but I don't see how this would effect it as the engine wasn't running at the time I replaced the airbag. Would a Nanocom help?

I should imagine that's a bit of a "brown trousers" moment.
The usual reason for an airbag over inflating is a problem with the Ride Height Sensors. The first thing you should do is a careful physical examination of the sensors to make sure that everything is secure, disconnect the vehicle battery before you start disconnecting either sensor.
After that it's a case of a suitable code reader, Nanocom or Hawkeye to see what's going on and if necessary recalibrate the system.
Do bear in mind that even though the sensors were replaced as you say 6 weeks ago, they can still go faulty.
